Gerald van Wyck founded the Pacific Spirit Choir in 1995 at West Vancouver United Church where he has been Music Director since 1987. His focused and intense rehearsals are leavened with a lively sense of humour. His innate musical talent, versatility and tireless energy are also shared at Vancouver Community College, where he is Head of Choral Activities, and where he instructs in Music History and Conducting. He is also sought after as a Choral Clinician at musical festivals across Canada.
For thirteen years he was Artistic Director of the BC Boys Choir, with whom he toured and recorded internationally, leaving them in 2003 to pursue activities in orchestral conducting. He has been Assistant Conductor of the Vancouver Island Symphony, under Pierre Simard, and Music Director of the Vancouver Island Opera. He is also a popular guest speaker on music, offering talks for Capilano College Elder College, the West Vancouver Library, the Vancouver Symphony and many other organizations.
Mr. van Wyck is a passionate believer in music’s ability to inspire and create community. He was awarded the 2003 FANS Legacy Award by the North Shore arts community.
